Clarke: Re-signing Primeau a priority

Philadelphia Flyers general manager Bob Clarke says he would like to re-sign Keith Primeau before the collective-bargaining agreement expires this fall.

Primeau will be one of five unrestricted free agents this summer, and while Clarke would like to get their signatures on a contract as well, he has targeted Primeau as a top priority.

"Primeau, we are still trying to sign," Clarke tells the Philadelphia Inquirer. "Some teams will sign players and some won't. Somehow, we have to figure out a way to get Primeau signed."

Recently acquired Alexei Zhamnov, Mark Recchi, Sean Burke and Chris Therien will all be free to go elsewhere this summer.

Clarke says the Flyers, like many other teams, will wait to see what the structure of the new collective-bargaining agreement will be before deciding what direction to take.

The Flyers currently have 14 players under contract beyond this season, totalling more than $40-million.
