Flyers' Primeau reportedly out with concussion-like pain

According to a report in the Philadelphia Daily News, the Flyers' Keith Primeau is again dealing with concussion symptoms and will likely be out of the lineup for the rest of the week.

Primeau played after taking an elbow to the jaw during a game last Tuesday against Montreal. After saying he felt fine after the hit, he began having persistent headaches and weariness the last two days and was pulled from Sunday's lineup.

He was expected to be re-evaluated again on Monday, the Daily News reported.

"I have been feeling lethargic the last couple of days, and it has progressively gotten worse," Primeau told the Daily News on Sunday. "I had [Flyers' massage therapist Brad Smith] work on my neck and shoulder to see if that would alleviate some of it ...''

Coach Ken Hitchcock ultimately decided to take the team captain out of the lineup.

According to the report, Primeau said he was "encouraged" by the fact that he didn't feel immediate symptoms after taking the elbow from Montreal's Alexander Perezhogin. But, the captain told the newspaper he felt the effects Friday.

"It's a lot of similar symptoms as last time,'' Primeau told the Daily News. "I have headaches and pressure, and just don't feel right. I feel lethargic.

"[It had been] a few days and I tried to get through because I thought it was just more getting back to playing after missing a year. I thought I was just maybe dragging a little bit. But it was deteriorating and not getting better."

Primeau missed 21 games during the 2003-04 season after a concussion and suffered two more head-related injuries in the playoffs.

"I think where [Primeau] stands is pretty obvious," Hitchcock told the newspaper. "The effects of the hit came back a little bit after the game in Carolina. He didn't feel right towards the end of the game. We're just not, with the history and last 24 months with Keith, we're just not prepared to take any chances.
